Below you will find details and an overview of each of the media placements for the 2026 academy.

When you apply, we will ask you if there is a specific area of the media you are interested in, so that we can ensure you are put forward to the most relevant placement.

If you are interested in every type of media, we will put your application forward for all the placements.

Organisation: Arena Racing Company

Length of placement: Eight weeks, located within commutable distance to at least one of our 16 racecourses located across the country. End-July – mid-September

Placement overview

This placement with work predominantly within the Group Marketing team to help with social media content and PR for the Racing League and Cazoo St Leger Festival. As the largest racecourse Group in the UK operating 16 racecourses, this placement will focus on gaining ‘on the ground’ experience via attending racing fixtures across the country. The eight-week role will be tailored to the specific candidate’s skills and career aspirations. Opportunities include:
  • Producing social media content (video, photography, filming, interviews, written blogs)
  • Gaining operational raceday experience to understand how a racing fixture is staged
  • On course screen project to create a broadcaster brief PR opportunities – attending stable visits, writing press releases and written blog content
  • Possibility to spend time on the production desk with The Racing Partnership

Organisation: Ascot Racecourse

Length of placement: Monday 4th May to Saturday 20th June (seven weeks)

Renumeration during placement: London Living Wage plus any expenses occurred on location

Qualifications required: None

Key skills for placement: Knowledge of horse racing, in particular Flat racing and the international landscape. Strong writing and proofreading skills. Two Saturday racedays (10th May and 20th June) are included as part of the placement, which takes in the full week of Royal Ascot.

Any other desirables: Desire to learn and take on any task. Any experience filming and editing content for social media a bonus.

The placement will be split between the Racing Comms and the Marketing/Social Media teams. Rough guide to how the placement might look:

Week 2 – Royal Ascot media guide preparation (Comms)

Week 3 – Royal Ascot social media content planning (Social Media)

Week 6 – Final build up, pre–Royal Ascot preview event (Comms/Social Media)

Placement overview

We aim to give the students an overall understanding of the Production Process from Project Management to Filming on location and Post Production with the Edit Team. All subject to the availability of projects.

We are a small diverse team that plays multiple roles within the production process, the placement will reflect this.

Week 1: Introduction to GBR

Week 3: Media event / filming planning, briefing documents and event co-ordination

Week 4: Campaign planning and brainstorming working with the digital and marketing team

Any other desirables: An interest in other sports that ITV cover at the time of the placement would be preferable, but not essential. This is likely to include the 2026 World Cup

Placement overview

The placement is designed to experience all aspects of the ITV Racing Production, which in 2026 will broadcast 117 days of racing across ITV1 and ITV4.

The role within the placement will be fluid and discussed with the candidate to make the six weeks as enjoyable and productive as it can be.

This will be a mix of office work, WFH and working on site (racecourses).

Placement overview

You would work across the JockeyCam business based at our office in Chepstow, being trained on how to work with our cameras, both JockeyCam and 360 VR, and the editing of the footage. Ideally this will lead to working with jockeys at racecourses, and potentially with other sports too.

The placement would also include how we put together risk assessments and plan for racedays and other events.

The opportunity to work with Nick Luck Daily, where you will plan and work on editorial for race meetings, podcasts, social media and live events.

You will get the chance to meet leading industry professionals and work on strategies leading up to the major autumn international race meetings

Placement overview

A general introduction to RaceTech’s multiple operations on racedays will be given, explaining the key roles and the unique requirements for working on Outside Broadcasts at racecourses. Health and Safety is a key part of training.

Work experience will include gaining an understanding of our operations by working alongside Camera crew, Directors, VT operators, Photo finish operators and Public Address engineer/operators.

Most of the learning to take place at racecourses although some time in our Media Department will also be available. A schedule of placement days will be arranged to suit the location of the intern.

Qualifications required: None absolutely required, though relevant qualifications (eg A-Level English or undergraduate degree) are helpful

Key skills for placement: A high standard of written English and strong communication skills. A baseline knowledge of racing is important to maximise the opportunities the placement offers

Any other previous experience required: None, though experience creating content for public consumption (written, video, social) is desirable

Placement overview

The Racing Post is one of Britain’s biggest sports publishers, providing daily and in-depth coverage of horseracing and other sports across digital, print and social channels, with millions of weekly users. Over an eight-week placement interns will gain exposure to much of our diverse content operation. Interns can expect to learn foundation journalism skills, to write and edit stories, to pitch and execute their own coverage ideas, and to work with our specialist sport, bloodstock, social and video teams. Along the way, they’ll receive training and support from award-winning colleagues in our 160-strong content department. Normally, the internship builds towards a major project — this could be a major article, report or video project — but every internship is tailored to the individual’s interests, skills and experience.

Placement overview

Week one: Introduction to television production, spending time with each area of the gallery (directors / producers / graphics / sound / EVS / online team)

Week two: Editorial – the week is spent with an allocated Assistant Producer and will include filming, editing and a day with the presenters on course

After Week 2, we will decide with the internee which area they have seen they would like to see more of and then we will set the internee a project to complete in the remaining three weeks. Examples would be:-

If the interest is in filming, we would help them to produce their own 5 minute film that would be broadcast on the channel / online / social media.

If the interest were in presenting, we would assign one of our presenters as a mentor and give the internee some media training, with a view to appearing on the channel at the end of the three weeks.

Organisation: Sky Sports Racing & At The Races

Length of placement: Six weeks

Renumeration during placement: London living wage

Qualifications required: None — training and support will be provided throughout the placement.

Key skills for placement:

Any other previous experience required: None necessary, but a keen interest in television, horse racing, or media production is advantageous.

Placement overview

This six-week placement offers the cadet an immersive introduction to the full television production process within the dynamic environment of At The Races and Sky Sports Racing. Working alongside experienced producers, directors, and digital teams, the cadet will gain first-hand experience across several key areas of broadcast media.

They will spend time in the production office assisting with programme producing, researching, editing, and editorial preparation for live race days. In the gallery, they’ll observe and support the live output process — learning about the roles of producers, directors, and technical crew in delivering a live sports broadcast and they will also spend time with reporters and presenters, learning the tricks of the trade.

Beyond traditional broadcast, the placement will include time with the digital and social media teams, helping to create engaging short-form content and learning how Sky Sports Racing reaches audiences online. By the end of the six weeks, the cadet will have developed a broad understanding of how ideas move from concept to screen, and how different departments work together to deliver engaging coverage to racing fans across multiple platforms.

Organisation: The Jockey Club

Length of placement: 4 weeks from July 4th, 2024 including 3 weekends Tuesday to Saturday working week

Renumeration during placement: Living wage plus travel expenses

Qualifications required: No qualifications needed. All we require is someone that is passionate about racing/social media, with a good work ethic and a desire for creativity. An expectation to work outside of normal working hours and an expectation to travel

Placement overview

During the period of the placement there will be a need to be at The Coral Eclipse on 5th & 6th July at Sandown, The July Festival at Newmarket the following week and potentially either The Summer Plate (jumps) at Market Rasen, or Newmarket, where you will be helping with the social media content. This is a hybrid role and there will be a requirement when at home to attend a 10am creative meeting where tasks are allocated daily.

The Jockey Club has 50 social channels however the social team manage the main accounts and racecourse channels around key events, you will be expected to be an active member of this team.

The successful candidate will also have the opportunity to engage with other aspects of our media operations and business depending on their interests and aspirations.
