Sophie is 25 and lives in Bristol. She is a Psychology with Criminology graduate of Nottingham Trent University. Since a young age she has always had a passion for horses, riding during her school years and attending race days all over the world. From attending over half the courses in Britain to visiting Longchamp, Santa Anita and even Flemington for the Melbourne Cup, there are plenty more she’d love to tick off!
Alongside psychology, she has always had an intrigue for media and even more so, a strong interest in the day to day and behind the scenes work of everything racing. Having applied for the Racing Media Academy last year unsuccessfully, she decided it would be a potentially missed opportunity to not apply again (and it paid off)! She is extremely excited to start her journey with the Racing Media Academy and more specifically her placement with POVORA (JockeyCam), to step into the industry and gain knowledge and skills in many aspects of racing!
My experience at the RMA was amazing! The training week was so insightful, getting to meet so many amazing people in the industry and receiving feedback from them was extremely helpful! It was great to get a rounded overview of all things racing media, whilst also getting the chance to visit some really interesting places!
My group of fellow cadets were all lovely and I have made some friends for life, for sure!
My placement itself with POVORA was also really great; getting to do a variety of things from helping the production team create document templates to working at Royal Ascot, editing JockeyCam footage. It definitely gave me insight into what side of racing media I enjoy more and could see a career in! For anyone interested in media in racing, I can’t recommend the Racing Media Academy enough, Lee and Abby do an incredible job and I thank them for everything they do!
