Eva O’Neill, from County Kildare in Ireland, is 19 years old and is delighted to have received a place on the Racing Media Academy with Nick Luck Daily.
Bought up through Pony Club and Eventing, her family also kept Thoroughbred broodmares which sparked her interest in racing. She began riding out for a local trainer when she was 13 during Covid and it was then that she really caught the bug! Since then Eva has worked in many roles throughout the industry, particularly at the sales and races, where she has worked for Highflyer Bloodstock, Goffs, Naas and Punchestown Racecourse. On horseback she evented up to juniors and finished 2nd in the Pat Smullen Charity Race at The Curragh.
Racecourse work sparked her interest in media as she worked alongside presenters and MCs whilst carrying out her role at the tracks, thus when the RMA opportunity arose, she went for it!
Eva has a huge passion for racing, both for the horses and the thrill of the sport which she hopes she can spread to the wider community. She is very much looking forward to her placement with Nick Luck Daily where she can learn first hand about the wider aspects of the sport and immerse herself within the media business.
My experience with the Nick Luck daily podcast was unbelievable from the worlds best Flat racing meetings to visiting yards each week. I met hundreds of new people within the industry that in future could possibly help me with my progression in the horse racing industry. I quickly began doing interviews for myself and hosting the Saturday edition of the podcast each week and thoroughly enjoyed throwing my hand at something new while getting feedback on how I could improve each week. I shadowed Nick at many of these premier tracks across the UK and saw firsthand how he did his job to such a high-level which makes him in demand as a presenter across the world. Nick trusted me to conduct interviews at the Sales whilst I was there giving daily reports from vendors and sales companies alike, visiting trainers, attending awards evenings along with media mornings in many of the top leading trainers in England. The Racing Media Academy allowed me to do this and I am hugely grateful to them for giving me such a fabulous opportunity.
